The Western Region of Uganda houses the majority of the National Parks in Uganda. Lake Mburo, Mgahinga, Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale, Rwenzori, Semiliki, and Murchison Falls National Parks all feature in this region. The region also has a rich cultural history with a lot of traditions, the Kingdoms of Ankole, Bunyoro, Kigezi and Toro all in this part of Uganda, each tribe has a discrete heritage which you can see as you explore this region of Uganda.

Due to the climate and altitude in Western Uganda, there are many Tea and Coffee plantations dotted over the landscape which is also punctuated by stunning natural crater lakes and forests making a journey into the area an adventure in itself. But it doesn’t stop there, Lake Bunyonyi, Lake Mutanda, Lake Edward, Lake George and Lake Albert are also found here, bringing with them an unrivalled beauty that can only be found in this region of Uganda.

Day 1: Arrival Entebbe Airport- Entebbe Date:

Welcome to Uganda! On arrival, you will be met and greeted at the Airport by a Valiant Safaris driver-guide who will be your Driver for the safari, and then transfer to your hotel for check-in.

Day 2: Entebbe – Murchison Falls N.P Date

Pick up from your hotel and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park with Rhino tracking at Ziwa and lunch en-route.

The drive northwards will take you via Luweero to Nakasongola and after tracking the rhinos you will continue to Murchison Falls National Park on of the oldest parks in Uganda. First gazetted as a game reserve in 1926 Murchison Falls Park is located in the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley Hosting over 76 species of mammals and 451 species of birds. It is also bisected by the Victoria Nile which 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating the spectacular Murchison Falls. The river offers a great opportunity for a game drive and the regular visitors to the riverbanks include elephants, giraffes and buffaloes, while hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic birds are permanent residents.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park Date

Early morning game drive in the park searching for the animals, major species likely to be sited on the game drive includes elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, kobs, and on a lucky day even a lion can be sited. After lunch go for an afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of falls where you will disembark and take a hike to the top of falls, this is a rewarding adventure as the hike is relatives and takes you along the water fall through a forested hill with great views of the waterfalls.

Day 4: Murchison Falls N.P – Kibale Forest Date

This day starts with a morning breakfast and drive to Kibale, picnic stops en-route for lunch and stunning views of the scenery will spice up the drive, tea plantations are one of the friendliest to your sight en-route, arriving in the late afternoon.

Kibale forest has over 1,450 individuals (Chimpanzees) protected within the park, in addition are 12 other primate species, and numerous bird species, mammal species butterflies and unique tree species some of which you can possibly encounter on a visit to this conservation area. At Kanyanchu, a community of chimpanzees has been habituated since 1991, allowing visitors an outstanding opportunity to track these apes in their natural Habitat.

Day 5: Kibale Forest N.P. – Chimpanzee Tracking Date:

This morning go for a Chimpanzee Tracking Experience in Kibale forest national park. Tracking starts at 7am with a briefing at Kanyanchu Park offices, where you will be allocated rangers to take you to the forest. An advance team already in the forest keep tracking the chimps and communicates with your ranger on the radio call, tracking can last for 2 to 4 hours depending on how far the chimps could be feeding.

Visit Bigodi swamp in the afternoon, a community project aimed at improving the livelihoods of the local people, a local guide will lead you on a developed 4.5km trail through the swamp for approximately 3 hours where you can find several bird species including the great blue Turacos, Hornbills Kingfishers and also Black and White Colobus, Red Colobus, Red Tailed Monkey, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, L’hoest Monkey, Vervet Monkeys can be spotted.

Day 6: Kibale Forest N.P – Queen Elizabeth N.P. Date

Morning breakfast and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, enrote you will visit the crater lakes region. Visit the Katara women group a conservation community that makes paper product out of elephant dung.

Afternoon launch cruise on the Kazinga channel will give you great views of several game including Hippos, Buffaloes, elephants and birdlife that queen Elizabeth National Park has to offer. Kazinga channel connects lake Edward to lake George in the park, off the boat cruise; continue with and evening game drive in the park if time permits before returning to your lodge for an overnight.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth N.P Date

A morning game drives in the Kasenyi plains through to Katwe Kob mating grounds. Most of the animals you are likely to find here include impalas, sitatungas and lions when lucky enough. here women make paper products out of elephant dung. Alternatively, you can go for a lion tracking experience at an extra payment.

Transfer to Ishasha sector for a game drive searching for tree-climbing lions. Ishasha sector of the park is the heavily endowed part of the part with the largest concentration of animals in this area.

Day 8: Queen Elizabeth N.P. – Bwindi N.P. Date:

A morning game drive in the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishasha sector increasing your chances of seeing the tree climbing lions and many more animal species to spot on the game drive. Ishasha sector is the most endowed with animal species including Impalas, Elands, Buffaloes, elephant, famous tree climbing lions and depending on how lucky you are; you may also find a Leopard.

Lunch before starting the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The drive will take you along a murram road with some bumpy areas but a very scenic drive in this region. After check in at the lodge you will have a well-earned rest contemplating on the gorilla trekking experience the following morning.

Day 9: Bwindi N.P – Gorilla Trek Experience Date:

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is located in south-western Uganda edge at the edge of the great east African Rift Valley. It is a home to over 400 species of mountain gorillas about half of the world’s population. Many of these are habituated in families that are daily visited by tourists. The forest is also a home to over 350 species of birds and 400 flora species.

Gorilla trekking starts at 8am after a briefing at the park headquarters, you will trek through the dense steep forest searching for the gorillas depending on where they were seen making nests the previous evening. The trekking can last 2-7 hours depend on how soon you find the Gorillas, this is influenced by the location they stayed overnight. Trekking can be a tasking adventure, but coming to a facial close-up with these close relatives to human is a reward worthy to earn. After gorilla trekking, Time permitting you may go for a community walk and visit the community conservation projects around the park.

Day 10: Bwindi N.P – Lake Mburo N.P Date

After morning breakfast transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, a stopover at Mbarara the city of milk for lunch will be a refreshing moment before heading to Lake Mburo Rwonyo peninsular for an afternoon boat cruise. The park is the smallest of the Uganda’s protected savannah parks with lots of metamorphic rocks and a home to over 350 species of birdlife, zebras and buffaloes are the face of the game in this savannah land. Elands, Oribi Waterbucks, Hippos, Reedbucks, Topi and a Leopard can also be spotted on a lucky day.

Day 11: Lake Mburo N.P – Entebbe Date

The last day of your safari experience is here! After a morning relaxation at the lode, it is time to drive back to Entebbe. Start with a short game drive out of the park with the last chances of enjoying the view of the beautiful game in Lake Mburo National Park. The drive back to Entebbe with lunch en-route and a stop at the Equator for a picturesque moment, arriving in the late afternoon in time to check in for your evening flight back home.
